A careless plucking of four crimson gems,

Now cheerless snow falls smothering the light.

The endless dark and cold from which it stems,

Creating now a deep and endless night.

All hope has lost, the frigid death has won;

Curséd by the lips with the bloody stain,

The blackened trees grasp toward the waning sun,

Corpses’ silhouettes on a barren plain.

But lo, a bolt of light cuts through the haze,

And dormant life awakened from its sleep,

Now bathing in the warmth and golden blaze,

Has once again begun its wondrous creep.

Hope flows from flowers, purest dreams renewed,

Soon souls rejoice at beauty multi-hued

This was the sonnet I had to write for English class, the main thing that one needs to know is that it is supposed to parallel the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. (And yes, the non-iambic use of lines 6 and 8 were purposeful :)) Critiques are encouraged, I'll try to take them into consideration.

Pretty~
You did really well on this, as far as I can tell. I usually don't like rhyming poetry so I'm not much of a judge...but this was nice.

Love is just a four-letter word for "here are my heart and soul, please take them and grind them into hamburger meat."

Great job! (How'd I miss this in my watch list? Sorry for replying so late.)

There's not much I can critique. My only comment is that the initial lines are not complete sentences. I just want to say I noticed that on my first reading. And personally, I prefer to single-spaced writing on dA.

And it makes me feel guilty for not writing anything this good (at least recently).

You've no idea how much devwatch backlog I'm only just working through now. Anyway, this is fairly spectacular as an interpretation of the Persephone myth, and an excellent sonnet besides. :+fav:ed
